algea and coral placement help

Is there anyone out there in the Amherst area that could possibly help me with some coral placement. I also have an algea outbreak going on but it seems to be limited to just the substrate in the very front of the tank. If you could stop over and take a look and offer advice I'd appreciate it. I've been doing the more frequent water changes and levels are good. I've also cut back on the daily lighting.
thanks, andy

A localized out break suggests to me that you have a dead zone. By that I mean an area that is not getting enough water movement to prevent the collection of nutrient rich dead goodies.

However there are many other possiblities going on but we don't have enough info to sort things out for you.

age of tank, amount of live rock, sand bed Yes? enough stiring creatures for that
size of skimmer? do you know for sure if it is working correctly etc

age of light bulbs can even be an issue as well.

any algea beyond a trace bit here or there suggests too many nutrients avalible to them and so we need to find the source and get rid of it. easier said then done but that is the path to follow.

my two cents
