Does anyone have a Coral Beauty that has almost no orange at all? This is my Fiji Angel so I am wondering if the Fiji dont have as much orange?

Here's mine. Not much orange. I'm looking for a female for him. Six years in my reef!

My first beauty was a real dark purple . I had him in a FOWLR with basic lighting and I thought his color was unimpressive. Maybe if my lighting was better at the time I would have liked him more. My second had much more orange wich I loved .

Wow that one looks alot like mine..
Yea I am a little bummed because he almost looks black in the tank. The only time he shows color is when hes in the back of the tank.

That is exactly what I was talking about. I see you have SPS's . so I guess the better lighting does not help.

Here Is another pic of my orange one when he was displaying and trying to harrass a newcomer in the tank. note the paler color and the normally purple/blue fins changed color also. Boy, I miss the little fella!
I was thinking of getting a new one but was concerned about how reef safe they are.
Is yours well behaved?

The second one looks like a deep water variant. Very nice looking CB!

I don't think there is a reliable way to tell the difference of gender of the fish

Age and size along with the elongated cheek spikes lead me to believe that if I am lucky enough to successfully introduce a smaller, younger CB the established one will become male if it is not already. If I'm luckier yet, they may pair up....

... Then again they may not. But, I have successfully paired three breeding pairs of orchid dottybacks and the attitude of those little guys is way tougher then any dwarf angel! I plan to use similar methods of introduction.

Sorry for the thread jack! :fish1:

I read somewhere that the colour is to do with the depth the fish is found at. I've probably got it backwards but i thought more purple meant greater depth.

here's mine i prefer less orange
