HI everyone

i need some help with the ID of a possible new species of Acropora

i am a coral collector in Australia and i found this acro on our last reef trip
here's a picture

please excuse the pic my camera is being repaired (thanks to my 5year old daughter), this is a pic from my Iphone, i will have more pics next week when my camera is repaired

i found it about a year ago but left it on the reef for safe keeping untill our system was ready to hold it.

the only species i can find that is similar is ACROPORA MUILTACUTA

the coralites are tubular and unlike muiltacuta they maintain the base thickness to the tip.

i have a few specialist in Australia on to the ID but i though that you guys here in the US would know or might have seen it :fun4:

cheers Nic Dos Santos

looks like too many radial corallites (or too stocky) to be multiacuta.
I'm going with granulosa as well.

thanks for the replys so far

it interesting, most people here in Aussie land are saying new species or multiacuta,

sorry for the delay on new pics my camera is in the mail, hope to get new pics up soon

cheers

looks like my friends granulosa when his tips rtned and he started over with a baseball shaped base the shoots they threw out like that. Its a nice coral none the less.

hi John can you put a pic up?

this one is really weird, i can't wait to get my camera back to get some good pics.

I'm having trouble with the Acropora specialist here in Australia, they are a bit snobbish towards this find, they are just saying A.multiacuta and not looking into it any more!!!!

but luckily I'm Mr persistent

nice pic john
and thanks

i will take pics with measurements just to show the size of the coralites

they are as fat as your pinky and not like the lories or most other deepwater acro's

cheers

unfortunatly it was a weak coral
: / it rtned ones then bloomed into the pic then outta nowhere he told me it died, it was my favorite coral in his tank.
