That's chrysogaster, not allardi IMHO.

I agree, def. not allardi. I believe that allardi have a thinner second bar. Chrysogaster are even more unusual in the trade, well worth what you paid. I hope you can keep him alive they are beautiful fish.

They look like allardi to me, but then I've never seen gasters in person. The male is working on that sub-caudal yellow triangle.
Why do think they are chrysogaster? I'm not saying you are wrong. I know you have a group. I'm just curious.

they were in quarantine, but somethin happened in that tank ( i think my mom spayed some oust air stuff in the air, and the water was like pure green so i moved them into my main display. they and a ywg are the only fish in there though, so tis almost like a quartine ( no stess factors at least) male jsut ate frozen food, but still seems to be breathing a little harder than usual ( 3 mabey 4 breaths a second) is this really bad???? also i looked at pics of allardi and i believe they are allardi, thats what the wholsaler had them as too. they have the funky tale stripe and everything. that pic the someone reposted arent my clowns, mine are only thr pics i plsted. thanx

ok, as far as visable signs, normal poop, hes accually swims really close to the bottom ( hope that isnt bad) and has no sings of anythin like brook, ich, or anyother type of parasite or diesaese. hope that helped thanx again

I think it is because of the width of the second bar which is supposed to be narrower in allardi. The white perimeter on the soft dorsal too is an indication for 'gaster too according to Wilkerson.

hmmm, ill have to read up on them, but as for the breathing problem, could it be caused my 85 F water. i am stunned, by heater has been unplugged for over a week, and my water is still heatin up and my house is only at 77. anyone have anyinput on this. also for the clowns, how come the pics of allardi on every website dont have the thiner second bar like you mentioned? i will try to figure out what kind they are, but im more worried about health right now than anything. is swimimin close to the bottom a bad sign, hes not right now but very now and then he goes down there.

nvm, i just looked at a good picture of a gaster, and i agree now. mine look alot like it, with the thick bar, and yet still have the funky tails. lol so the gasters are accually more expensive the allardi usually?? then i guess mabey i did get a steal.

Chrysogasters at a LFS for $52 either your an extremely lucky person or I bet their not Chrysogasters. I hope that I'm wrong it would be great if you got a pair (better if I had a pair :))

as for the heat... id buy a fan asap... I personally have a clip on fan that blows across the water

but im sure a standup fan would be fine if you get the height right. it will lower your temperature pretty fast. but watch for evaporated water. youll get alot more evaporation with a fan close.

Id plug your heater back in too. so you can keep your temp even. just figure out hgow low you can get it with a fan and regulate it. mines at 81.

If your temp is 85 and the room temp is 77, your pump may be running hot and raising the temp of your water.
Yes, a temp that high might be afffecting your clown.
Warmer water tends to hold less oxygen.

i was told by one of you to use maracyn 2, but i can only find he maracyn 2 that says freshwater i bought it anyway, is it safe to use?? i am currently giving the clowns a formalin bath in a 5 gallon bucket ( quartine tank got aerosal spray in it ) the article im following said to use 20 drops for every gallon. and to do a 45 minute bath. anyone agree with this. am i doin it right. oo ya i am treating with formalin, because i believe both have brrok now. ( trying to catch it a little early)

When I suspect brook, I do a 50 min. formalin bath followed by a 10 min . freshwater bath. Keep an eye on your fish for signs of distress. Make sure your put an airstone in your formalin bath and add a little buffer to the FW bath to bring the pH to 8 or so.

It has worked for me pretty well.

Good luck

thanx, i did the formalin ( exactly 48 min, and 10 min freshwater bath) i have added the clowns back in to the tank, and both seem very stressed. arent laying down, or gasping at the surface or the water, but are swimming in one little arear of the tank, and both are breathing very hard right now. im pretty sure it is, but is it normal for them to be pretty stresssed out after having these dips, then being relocated again??? thanx ill let you all know how they turn out.

It is normal for them to be stressed, but you might want to add an airstone or two to help keep the oxygen levels up. Were you able to fix your temperature problem?

yes, it was a pump that had gotten clogged, givin off alot of extra heat. but i fixed it and tank is at 81.4 thanx for all the help.

I'd still run an airstone, the extra oxygen will not hurt anything. Of course if you have a skimmer you won't need to run an airstone.

well i do have a coralife super skimmer 65, ( which by the way is the BEST skimmer ive ever tried) but i still added an airstone. they at least have gotten closer to eachother thru the ordeal, and thw male twitches like crazy . they seem a little better, im goin to try and feed them tonight and see what they do. i have garlic on hand jsut in case also. anyone think i should repeat the treatment in 3 days like tha article i read said to repeat treament 3 times every three days, but if they seem fine i dont think i will. thanx for the help everyone
