Allens damsel

Pomacentrus alleni , aka Neon or Allens damsel.

Anyone keep one? They are quite beautiful and sounds as if they are docile. Not a lot of posts about them though. What is their behavior with smaller peaceful tankmates ?

Thanks

I have one in my 180 gallon. He gets along fine with everyone except the neon dottyback, who periodically chases the damsel out of his home in the rock. Damsel gets along with everyone and everything, eats well, and is hardy.

The general class to avoid if you're not up for the pushier damsels is the dascyllus: shape, habits, and disposition of a maroon or cinnamon clown, and grows a bit over four fat inches. The other types are generally milder, some downright shy, like the blue star.

More peaceful than Dascyllus damsels, less peaceful than Chrysiptera damsels. They are usually fine in a mixed reef unless two pr up and spawn, then they can get quite aggressive.

Blue star... are you referring to Pomacentrus alleni ? I did not notice blue star as a common name for this fish but after reading your post I see that it sometimes is called neon blue star damsel.

Thanks all

Just added a few to my tank.. while quarantining, a couple of them were rather dull which seems to be stress related. The two dull ones are slowly coloring up. Recently added to my 2nd display tank and they seem to be getting along with everyone fine.. the Sunburst Anthias will chase one of them away from his 'rock' which is expected... The Damsel's don't outright bother anyone.
Then again, they haven't been in my DT for very long. They apparently stay on the smaller side which is a nice bonus.

A long time ago I had some in a tank that got some afternoon/evening sun and in direct sunlight they are just stunning.
I had them with a pair of clarkii, a pair of Tiger jawfish and a pair of marine bettas, so they were smallest fish everybody else picked on.
