allergic reaction from LPS candy cane?

good grief, John! Did they give you an adrenalin shot as well? My daughter had a shellfish reaction a number of years ago and they gave her one to speed up the process....it was FRIGHTENING.

Brian (formerly @ CF) had an allergic reaction to the shellfish found in Rod's Food? His Doctor advised him to find another career and that's why he's no longer doing what he loves- reef aquariums. Very unfortunate.

Keep your daughter away from Rod's Food, Kat.

so... tonight i do a water change and clean the glass. had latex gloves on but the water gets in them thru the top. finish cleaning look under my arms and the hives are firing up again!!! took a xyzal they are starting to go away now. i think its maybe just the salt water or something in the water has changed recently. i have been keeping saltwater tanks for 4 years now with no reaction untill this week. tonights reaction was very minor compared to sundays. but i am on steroids and xyzal. i think i will try the full arm gloves next.

Unless she eats it....which is possible since she's a poor starving college student....i think she's okay...but thanks for the smile, Gary! Yes, knew about Brian...he was really pretty upset that he had to give that up. He was one of the best aspects of CF.

have you switched to a different kind of salt? I know that's an obvious question, but sometimes the obvious is often overlooked. Thanks for keeping us posted. I feel a little blessed that i can touch everything in my tank...even palys and nems and never have any issues...knock on wood. :wildone:

no new salt i use instant ocean. the only change in the tank is i removed the carbon last week. and i added the candy cane coral. i am getting the full arm gloves and putting carbon back in. hope this helps stop the problem.
i have read a few stories around the internet of very similar cases. none seem to ever quite figure it out, they either end in stopping the hobby, or they just stop having reactions out of no where
