so it's a 10 foot tank, not almost 11

picky i know, but if it was like 10'10" you could say 'almost 11', but it's 10, so why not say 10' tank?

BTW it is closer to 11' than to 10', so i think its fair to say "almost 11 feet" and standard glass comes in sheets of 130" i am pretty sure that is why he opted to go for a that size, if you want it bigger it is special order and a lot more money, at least where I'm from. I would have gone the same route. 2" is hardly worth the money, just to say it is 11 feet.

Looking forward to some pictures

FWIW I have a 10x3x2h. My recommendation is go at least 3 feet front to back and 4 if you can swing the space. Front back depth is really, really nice.

the tank will look very squat. Its to long and short.I have a 120x36x30 and it still looks out of dimension because of the length.

i wonder why he didn't just go the extra 2"?

Tank is going to be heavier than all hell so be sure to eat your wheaties the day the tank arrives.

BIGNICK
You have a shark /reef tank. COOL ...I have a 75 that I am converting to fo when I get my big tank up. I have a 55 that I wil be using as my sump for my new big tank. I have a couple predator fish in it right now. I was thinking of getitng a shark but I think the 75 might be too small. My big tank will be 375. I thought about putting a shark in it but I am afraid if it eating all the little fish int he tank. What kinda shark do you have in your big tank? Do you have little fish in there? I am really afraid because of what my Lion fish has already eaten.

The extra 2" adds a lot to the money.

As for why not going wider, space and cost.

It is only 2x2 but its still 11ft!!

looking forward to seeing you set this tank up. I'm going to do a 10'Lx 30"W tank but still debating on the height. Either 24" or 30" so I'll have to keep watching to see if you are happy with the height or if you wished you had gone higher.

I have a closed loop on my 8 foot long tank and I wish that I didn't have it. The laminar flow limits what you can put at the output and you will never get enough flow thru that monster relying on just a closed loop.

Don't hurt yourselves moving that thing.

:)

Water movement is what concerns me right now.

This is a concern of mine with any larger tank (even one that doesn't qualify for this forum :)), my current "small" tank is 6 feet long but only 18 inches front to back, which makes it really hard to put any beefy water movement without an obnoxious powerhead in the tank. Sure you can go Vortecs, but at almost 11 feet I don't know how well those will do on the ends. Tunzes sure they're nice but man they're large, and with only 24 inches front to back you'd be hard pressed to hide them. Closed loops/return manifolds are the only option but you sacrifice efficiency up the wazoo with any sort of external pump.

I'd be interested in finding out exactly which direction you take, and more importantly how well you like it.

JEREMY

WHAT KIND OF CIRCULATION PUMPS U GONNA USE? SKIMMER?
WHAT U GONNA USE FOR WATER MOVEMENT IN THE TANK?

HOW MUCH SAND AND WHAT KIND OF SAND? ALSO
LIVE ROCK?

I'M SURE WE ALL LIKE TO KNOW.

CARLOS

Main pump is a Barracuda. It will have 4 enductors on it.

No skimmer. Display will have 600lbs of Aragonite. Sump has a 4ft refugium area.

Live rock, just got in 100lbs of fiji. His old system had about 200lbs of fiji that will go in as well.

Sorry for the delay on pics, keep forgeting. Got the overflow boxes glued in last night, sump is all plumbed.

Lighting is 3 400 watt and 2 250 watt Metal halides with XM 20K bulbs.
