just thought i'd share.
set up some dosing units last week. been a nightmare trying to get them to work correctly.
long story short, my alk doser remained on at some point last night. because i woke up this morning to the timer on and pump running dry.
not sure how much was dosed in but my alk is at 13 right now..from 9.

thank god I didn't fill the container full of my 2 part, just for this reason.
snails and crabs are not moving much, but I'm sure that's due to the ph spike.
I'm going to let the tank equalize today and should be back down to 9 by midnight.

so much for automation. And I just finished stocking it too. Would have been a huge loss.
Oddly enough, all my sps have much more PE and my gsp's are reaching for the sky.

It went down from 13 to 9 on its own in 5 hours? I'm not much of a chemist, but how can that happen?

Either way, glad your tank is ok.

Holey moley! That's the problem with automation... it's on autopilot only when you don't interfere. The second you take it off autopilot, the onus is on you to put it back on autopilot or things can go bad fast.

I've done something similar when I turned my RO/DI topoff off, and as a result was topping off with saltwater. Tis ok for a few minutes is ok, but forgetting to put things back on autopilot is a recipe for rapid tank crash.

Glad you got things under control.:)

yes. I'm sure a lot of it precipitated out. My CA was at 440. after the overdose it was down to 380 when i measured alk at 13.

by rebuff the CA back up, it drove down the Alk to create the balance. And the corals used the rest.

my little 20g nano goes through 40ml of Alk and 30 ml of CA daily.
And the demand just increases week to week.
crazy, right?

I'm getting some serious growth on sps.
