Alveopora as hard as Goniopora?

I've already posted a thread asking this question, and most said that Alveopora are easier to take care of and last a little longer than Goniopora. And doesn't require much to survive.

But I just got Aquarium Corals Book by Eric H. Borneman and its captive care states the same as Goniopora-They slowly waste away.

So are Alveopora a bit easier than Goniopora? I don't want to buy a coral that will only live to maybe a year. Every place I read there are always different views and facts and experiences, I can't get a clear answer on how much better they are in hardiness compared to Goniopora.

Thanks!

There are some good links on goniopora.com or .org that compare the two. The problem with goniopora information is that a lot of new information is coming out, making much of what has been published out of date. Also, many publishings list goniopora all together instead of making distinctions between them. Tank parameters also make a difference. I keep a higher nutrient tank than many people (especially sps ppl) and have had success with my aveopora, it is growing, and had brought one of the harder to keep goni's back to its natural color after buying it bleached out at the store. (I found out it was bleached out after researching to figure out which species it is.) At the moment it inflates to reach out over 5" as of today. Talk about taking up space. With it reaching in all directions it usues up almost a square foot of space.

BTW, do a search of reefkeeper magazine. I think there was an article on there that might help. Dosing phyto and keeping iron up also help.

I had an Alveopora a couple of years ago and it did quite well for awhile, then I lost it. My experience was not that great at that time, and I had lost a couple of other corals while battling monti eating Nudi's. I think it was a mix of a couple of factors at the time. It was one of my wife's favorites and would really like to try again, I say go for it. I would say that it is alot easier than Goni's, or at least that is what I have been told by my favorite LFS owner, who is a wealth of information.

G'luck

I have always been hesitant to purchase a goniopora. I've seen that they can be hard to keep. Someone I respect for his knowledge (and communication with reef authors) explained to me that "some goni's are collected from a reef, while most are collected from a lagoon, which are much harder to keep than reef goni's."

Looking for more info. I keep sps, and hate it when creatures don't do well.
