Alvepora care

I already have a thread on frogspawn, but I would also like to get an alveora coral depending on how hard they are to take care of. So how hard are they to take care of compared to a gonioporas witch would be dificult to take care of? Do they need intentional feeding? What flow and lighting so they need? Can they be placed on the sand or do they encrust onto rocks? And how bad is their sting? Do they need to be kept away from other corals? How far away?

All replies are appreciated, so are pics. Thanks!

They are better suited to the common reef tank than goniopora. Most are braching I believe. All Coral can/should be fed, I do know if Alveo's need food to survive in a reef tank. It should be kept as far away as its tenticles can sweep like most corals.

Light = moderate
Flow = low/moderate and random

How long do these generally live for? Longer than gonioporas? I won't buy one if they live only 1-2 years in captivity. And you didn't mention if they need intentional feeding or not to survive. Will they do ok without intentional feeding?

Thanks

I have a goniopora that has lived over 5years and grown from a 1" frag to over the size of a basketball...

I have never target feed it anything.

Happy reefing

Alvepora care is about the same as frogspawn. I've never intentionally feed mine and hes been in my tank for about a year now and all is well. Just get rid or that peppermint shrimp first. Yeah I posted on your other thread.

Yeah, I should consider getting rid of them, they don't even do anything, except for adding to the bioload. Thanks

I've read on other websites that Alveoporas do well if they are placed on the sand, and stir the sand around them once in a while. They feed on junk that floats onto them from the sand. Ours started out the size of a golf ball and is now (6 months later) the size of a softball.

Are there different types of them? I know the come in different colors, but are there different types of them?

One lfs I saw one with long tentacles, the other was this really nice silver, but the tentacles were not extended like the other one, they were pressed against the base, and I think that was normal becuase the lfs said thats what that ones supposed to look like. Is this some sort of difference between different ones?

Oh yeah, and can Alvepora touch a Frogspawn without one or the other sting eachother? Any coral alveporas are compatible with? Or can frogspawn only touch other frogspawns, hammers and torch's?

ILoveReefer, everything is going good with the peppermints and the frogspawn, I just think the peppermint was investigating. Thanks though!

I am interested in getting an alveopora as well, what kind of lighting do they require? How are they with clown fish, will the clowns bother them too much?

If the clowns don't have an anemone to live in, I think occasionally they will play in their tentacles, but, depending on their size, it shouldn't be bothered. If its small, it may become irritated and not open up (I'd say small is around 1-3 inches across). I know this because my clowns played with my goniopora which I got rid of because it was so small and wouldn't open up, and I found out how long they lived for in captivity.

If they have the same care needs as frogspawn, mpmitche, (according to Ilove reefer) they should do good under PC lighting and brighter, I think. My lfs has kept them under 74 watt, but more is better.

What can I use to spot feed alvepora's? I think their polyps are too small to take meaty foods like frogspawns. Would frozen baby brine shrimp be good? Like squirting some in front of it w/a turkey baster and letting the brine get blown into it? I could do that maybe once a week to make it grow faster. Can other corals benefit from frozen brine also?

I bought some when I was raising baby peps, but I have alot left over and need to do something with them. Are there any other foods I can spot feed them with? Any liquids, or things like brine. Powder cyclopeeze?

Thanks
