I have a powder brown tang that I have been fighting Ich with I had him in quarintine for 10 days using copper safe and he was cured and looked good and healthy and eating great so I put him back in the main tank and withing 3 days he had it back.So pulled any macro and inverts out and am treating the main tank with coppersafe.I was talking to a guy at a lfs and he told me to raise the temp to 82 degrees and lower the salintiy below 1.014 before I do this is this safe to do as far as the salinity?I also have a cowfish, puffer, tomatoeclown, and a panther grouper.

Please read the ich sticky posts at the top of this forum.

Also .. find another LFS that specializes in SW fish .. the one your using has given you inappropriate advise.

Lastly .. never put copper in your show tank.

Ok thanks for the forum links That guy was right about lowering the salinity and treating the main tank is ok as long as theres no inverts. So im on the right track

But I did do something wrong I left the tonga rock in there but I do not think theres much inverts living in there with my pnther grouper and puffer in there. But how long will it take to delete the tank of copper when the treatment is done.

Ok 2 more questions sorry I keep asking stuff but is garlic really good for the fish in fighting ich and is the spectrum food with garlic good to use?And I used to keep the salinity around 1.025 should it be lower for a fish only tank as the article was saying that fish are less stressed in lower salintities?

Copper can and will leach out of your rocks for months maybe years to come. I would definitely change your rock, and the tank itself will harbor copper and leach it. I'm afraid the damage is already done. It won't be that bad if it's in small doses. But when it releases at random it can wipe out the entire system. Cleaning does little. Not sure what your next step should be. I would have suggested treating the fish in a different tank. Also, 4 weeks at 1.009 is actually the minimum. Most suggest 6 to 8 weeks.

To my kowledge there is no scientific evidence that suggest that garlic is a cure for ich .. however .. garlic is considered a good food suplement and perhaps a feeding stimulate (both would be considered good for any ill fish)
