It's difficult to believe how idiotic a decision can seem in retrospect when at first it seemed reasonable.
I chanced across a pyramid butterfly at one of our LFS a couple of months ago. One of those outings where you weren't expecting to buy anything but something that you've always wanted just shows up (not to mention eating and looking chipper). And so of course you buy it.
This fish has a reputation for being fragile. It's hard to come by. It looked healthy. I was busy and really didn't want to bother with TT and QT. So I decided to just put it into the display. I never ever do that. But I thought this one time it'll probably be ok and a fish like this has a best chance of making it this way. You can guess what happened.
It was dead 4 days later.
2 weeks later so were my prized emperor, my beloved parrot, anthias, fiji puffer and royal grammas. All of whom Ive had for years. Brooklynella, I think, but Im not totally sure as oddly my clowns made it through mostly unscathed (one fought off a mild to moderate case).
I write this as a pathetic testament to a deadly combination of overconfidence, lassitude, and wishful thinking. QUARANTINE. No matter what.
