Amazon can be a little nutty sometimes

The huge price hike is a common tactic with eBay stores: it lets you put an item as out of stock without removing the listing, since no one will buy it at the ludicrous price (and if someone does...)

Why it's on Amazon now no idea.

Usually it's the 3rd party sellers the do that. You can always check Amazon prices history by going to Camelcamelcamel.

Hmmm...I would have thought it was a typo--like they tried to put $55.70 but ended up with $5,570.00 instead. I have seen lots of out of stock third party items on Amazon, mainly because I shop WAY TOO MUCH on Amazon.

eBay now allows you to keep the listing open when stock runs out, so no need to inflate the price on the last item hoping to keep the listing open until stock comes in. Amazon sellers raise and lower the price so the fake price drop (outrageous price drops to retail price) shows up in your cart.

My company used to sell nutritional drinks through Amazon. When they would expire they would ship back what was left over. Two years ago we received back what we thought was expired drinks, When we opened the boxes there where toys inside. We called them and told them of their error and were expecting them to pick them up. After a few weeks and no pick up we called back and were told to keep them. There was about 15 boxes on 2 pallets! We're a small company so some toys went to family and friends, but there was so much toys left over we donated them to a few churches.
