My LFS just got 1 of those in and I would like to hear from people that have experience with them. How hard are they really to feed? I read quiet a few times that lots of them starve to death by not getting enough food. My tank is 40 gallons with 50 pounds of LR and at least 2" of sand. Also the other fish are a Perc Clown and a Green Chromis. I probably will add also a Coral Beauty in the future but that's it then. Thanks for any reply

Make very sure it's eating and know what food it's eating before you buy it. Watch your tank for small holes it could get through: they're tiny and they can get out into the downflow.

GREAT fish.
Have one nearly a year in a 180 with lots of rock. It grazes on algae on the rock and also sucks in sand and spits it out.

i've had my hectors goby now for about a year. he's in a 75g. with about 150lbs. of LR..

i've never seen him interested in anything i feed the tank, he spends all his time searching the rocks and sandbed for pods and other crustaceans.... he seems to keep a round little belly...

Be sure both species of these gobies have an ample supply of filamentous algae in their diet. While copepods, etc. do make up a percentage of their diet, algae makes a much larger one. If they do not get enough, they will not do well in the long term.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll pass on it for now since I'm a beginner with a newly set up tank so I don't think I have enough algea and other life forms to keep a fish well fed specially when they don't take easily to prepared foods.

Does anyone know if more than one will get along in the same tank? I've read they are territorial and the one I have may not tolerate a new kid on the rock.
Also, will a Hector (looks similar) be tolerated?
