Ammonia Alert

I have been reading numerous articles on different reef sites lately about people having issues with their tank, coral dying, etc., only to test their RODI water and find levels of ammonia in it. Apparently, cities are adding ammonia/additives to the tap water during all this heat and drought to stablilize the chlorine or something like that. (I may be wrong on why its added, but the heat and drought are a cause for the additives) Anyways, if you have been having tank issues, you may want to test your water change water with an ammonia test kit just to rule it out...... SeaChem Prime added to the water change water seemed to help their problem.

"Chloramine" is what you're thinking about. Chloramine is added instead of chlorine as a disinfectant. Chloramine = chlorine + ammonia.

If you'll tell me the name of your tap water utility, I can check their report for you and tell if they use chloramine or chlorine.
