Ammonia trouble?

Well the full tank shot does not look as bad as the up close shots. Some google results said hermits? I just got a real small CUC and Chad at gateway said variety is the key

All this time I thought the majority of the cycle was waiting for ammonia spike and then waiting for it to turn into Nitrates. I honestly thought that what most people call "the cycle". I guess it's back to google.

Also at 2:30 am this morning my Nitrates are so low that I had to use my salifert kit on the low range procedure. I had 2.5 Nitrate and my Hanna ULR was 2 (0.01) the first time so I did it again and I got 0. I read that even though I read zero, it is still present because the algae hold the nutrients.

Well when I was constantly looking stuff about the cycle. It's called a cycle because it is constantly changing no start or stop always revolving to make a long read short. Maybe someone else can elaborate

How's your tank Bryan? Are you as excited as I am for the swap. And then a bonus day at nooks the next day! Unfortunately I won't be buying anything if this algae doesn't get better.

That full tank shot doesn't show the black back glass very well. I would say it's at least 1 1/2 to 2 inches long.

Now after reading your nitrate numbers I'd rubber band a toothbrush to some tubing and scrub off the algae and into a filter sock.

Just so no one has to read this whole thing to find my parameters that are spread out in different posts.
Friday night my parameters where:
Ammonia 0 (API)
Nitrite 0 (API)
Nitrate 25-50 (Salifert)
Phosphate .17 (Hanna URL)

This morning:
Ammonia .25 (API)
Nitrite 0 (API)
Nitrate 2.5 yes 2.5 (salifert)
Phosphate 0 (Hanna)

I got some more SmartStart just in case. But I actually decided to follow Nanook's advice, I am just riding it out. I guess I just kinda used advice from everyone. I am leaving the lights off, I grabbed 20 turbo snails, and I put in a little prime 2-3 days ago. Ammonia is not readable, and the algae is disappearing. I will continue doing what I am doing, but I will not be adding anything else to the tank. Just going to be patient as it is working. Parameters are great. Only thing is I wish it was fast because I am determined to buy corals from the swap for this tank. Even if I have to put them in my other tank first.

I am looking forward to it too. Torch, hammers, frogspawn and candy canes are some of my favorite. And then going straight to buy new light bulbs after the frag swap

A few months ago I was able to visit some club members houses to see their setups. I liked Kegogut's lights. I have the same light fixture so I decided to buy the Phoenix 14000k DE MH. I should get them tomorrow and hope to have them installed this week. I also bought a few replacement fans for my fixture. I bought silent fans. I can't stand the noise from the fans that are in there now. I am not sure what I will be getting from the swap yet. I don't have a specific coral in mind. My current tank has a lot of softy and zoas. This time I want to make it a bit more challenging.

Yeah that's cool I used to have halide I had the lumenarc mini pedant and used several 250w SE bulbs. This fixture is just a 4bulb T5 I will probably be able to sustain most corals im getting ati bulbs. However I stumble across a t5 look a like bulb that was actually Led. Bulbs they say last 8 years but I think they are new. 79.95 per bulb but they would more then pay for themselves

Are there people in the community using these? I would like to know more about these type of lights. I also ordered 4 new T5s and they will be here tomorrow also. I wonder if anyone has used them for years and checked the Par levels? I need to get a PAR meter when I install my lights.
