ammonia types

i'm looking for ammonia that i can use to start a fishless cycle. from what i've read it says to use pure ammonia (clear ammonia), no surfactants, perfumes, dyes, etc. the only thing i can find contains surfactants and clarifying agents. its claims it's "clear ammonia", is it safe to use???

Why are you using ammonia? Put a piece of shrimp, or some flake food in. As it decays it will produce ammonia, and start the cycle.

Ammonium chloride will work. It can be bought online at the Photographer's Formulary. I agree that fish food or a tiny piece of shrimp would be fine, though.
