Ammonia

have read a couple of places that its okay to cycle a tank with ammonia. I was at the store today and picked up some today. Has anyone else heard this or tried it. Wanted to ask before i did it. Thanks

I have heard of it, but that is the limit of my knowledge about it. Perhaps ask in the chemistry forum?

I have always just cycled with live rock, there is enough stuff on there to start a cycle, IMO.

surfactant means soap essentially, I would pass on that. a pinch of fish food, fresh seafood, your own pee, or just live rock can start a cycle as well.
