Amphiprion Clarkii Spawning Behaviour

I have a pair of Amphiprion somethings in my tank. The female is definitely a Clarkii, the male could be Amphiprion Sebae, but whatever teh case they are definitely behaved. The female was paired with a male that jumped to its death in March. It was quite a saddening moment. So I got a replacement, QT'd it for 2 months and when I put it in the DT it had found the female, submitted and was living in the LTA - all within a few minutes. It was very cool.

In teh 4 years I had the old pair I never saw eggs or spawning behaviour, just the submissive twitching. I seem to remember reading that when a female is getting ready to lays eggs both the male and female will clean the area by pecking at it. Today both the clowns are going mad at a section of rock behind the anenome. The rock is shaped in an overhang. Have I remembered correctly that this is spawning behaviour and will I see a patch of red eggs soon? And if so how long? Unfortunately I'm away for a week starting Wednesday. If something is going to happen I hope it's before lights out on Tuesday.

I guess my next questions is....has anyone had fry survive without doing anything special? My Bangai pair were spawning regularly before i redid the rockwork. It took 3 years but from January to May I saw 6 baby Bangais of which 4 have survived and live around the LTA that protected them (they lived in it when tiny). One of the Bangais is again carrying in its mouth.

Anyhow, any chance of little Clarki clowns surviving in the tank?

raising clownfish fry is much more difficult. The fry are much smaller and this presents difficulties of them finding enough appropriately sized foods. In short it will require preperation and a seperate tank to raise them. You should read Joyce wilkerson's book on clownfish. It will have lots of pointers on raising them if want to.
