Amphiprion latifasciatus pair...

I was at a local LFS in the Bay Area and spotted a few wild caught latifasciatus juvenile clowns. The owner said he got 4 of them in a shipment along with a couple Gem tangs. I was originally going get a pair of Latz for my new tank but decided on the latifasciatus clowns. I just hope they bond and pair up. Good news is, they are sharing a rose bta but I do see a bit of fighting. He also had a bunch of captive bred latifasciatus clowns but they were no where near the quality of the wild caught ones. Here are a few pics in their temporary home until the new tank comes in:

They were $350 for the pair.

Congrats. You saved yourself about $1600 by going this route unless you were going to get a CB pair of Latz clowns.
I thought about buying the clowns you got but decided to hold off till I am finally lucky enough to get a pair of wild Leucokranos

I was thinking about a pair of ORA Leucs but I couldn't handle their deformities. Is it me or all captive bred fish (sold by ORA and Sustainable Aquatics) severely deformed now?

Yes lots of their leucs had flat faces and underbites. ORA stopped selling them by the way.
Many of the CB clowns have more severe deformities than 4-5 years ago. If you search for Picasso or platinum clowns on YouTube, the ones from several years ago looked better than the ones sold at fish stores today. They weren't perfect but today's quality is significantly worse.

Yep, it sounds like a lot of inbreeding and shrinking of the genetic pool. I cannot stand pug/flat faces or "hump" heads!! Did they stop selling them due to their deformities?

Not sure why but I doubt it's due to deformities. I'm guessing they either lost their spawning pair or weren't selling enough of them to justify continued breeding.

I have seen very few captive bred anemonefish without serious deformities and those were either from Indonesia or local breeders. The ones commercially bred by the big US companies are usually between barely acceptable and feeder fish quality.
That's why I prefer wild caught clownfish.
I would go for quality captive bred if I could find them, but those seem to be real rarities.

If I had not all my tanks full with percula pairs I would go for latifasciatus or chrysogaster pair.

Yeah, wild caught clowns are so nice looking but are a gamble due to brook. Another one of my dream pairs is a nice, wild caught pair of Chrysopterus. I had a friend in the Navy who was stationed in Guam and he sent me and a friend a couple pairs of Chrysopterus about 12-15 years ago. They were amazing!

Look at this cutie on DD today. For those who can't have a Unicorn tang due to tank size this is a nano alternative. Or just rename it to Pinocchio clownfish.
