Scott W. Michael, Damselfishes & Anemonefishes page 211 upper right photo is of one that looks exactly like the above pic, it says chrysopterus... "young fish".
here is a picture of a chrysopterus i had that resembled a giant nigripes...
It looks like a misbarred individual of the pic Yuri posted and the p. 211 photo in S. Michael's book.

Yes Amphiprion chrysopterus Juveniles have a brownish color..............

But in all 4 varieties of Amphiprion chrysopterus have adult fishes that have brown coloration............

Few normal adults.........may change coloration and become brownish.........and this is reported to occours in aquarium too.........

The fish from GBR looks like pure A. chrysopterus Brown Morph.......................

It ressemble Amphiprion omanensis...............when you first look to them..........

Look at the difference between Amphiprion chysopterus Brown Morphs from the pictures above...................and this picture of a normal Juvenile.........

It looks brownish.........but you note that it is in the way to become a normal black Amphiprion chysopterus................

When we are talking about fishes from Coral Sea.............

I mean North East and South West PNG - Papua New Guinea...........New Britain and New Ireland...................Solomon Islands............and Great Barrier Reef...........

We are in the range of White Tail variety of Amphiprion chrysopterus............and this variety have Black Pelvic and Anal fins..............

This variety of Amphiprion chrysopterus are involved in the process of Amphiprion leucokranos formation..............

And we can expect a wide range of morphological variation in the off-springs.............if Amphiprion leucokranos is involved in the crosses..........

Ron Popeil fish could be one of this..............

A fish founded associated with Amphiprion chrysopterus............that have A. leucokranos genetics.........

I think in this hypotesis rather than a miss bar hypotesis...........to ID Ron Popeil fish..........

But I keep in my mind the miss bar hypotesis too...........

These are Amphiprion omanensis.........
