AmpMaster reliability

Hi MD,
I'm shopping for pumps and just wanted to get your opinion on the reliability of the AmpMaster 2100 and 2700.

Some users say that they are notorious for leaking seals and that the true amperage draw is almost double of what the company states. (1.8 amps on a running AM3K vs the 1.1 amps spec)

I was looking to plumb the AM2100 as a sump return tee'd to a EV-120 skimmer at sump level and two 3/4" Sea-Swirls at about 6 ft of head pressure. Is this pump too much flow? Would you suggest another pump instead?

For the AM2700, I was planning to use that in a closed loop with dual 1.5" drains leading to the inlet and returning through a Oceans Motions 4-way with 1" overhead hard piping.

This is for my planned standard 120g with dual 1.5" drains inside a center overflow and two additional 1.5" drains on the back wall for the closed loop.

Thanks.

HI,

Thanks for your inquiry. Many hobbyists have had great success with these pumps. Although there may be some units that leak, the manufacturer backs the warranty and can easily fix them for you. The set up sounds good, but you will reduce the flow on the pump when reducing it down to the 1" size that's proposed.

Please let us know if there's anything else we can help you with.
