Anampses neoguinaicus wrasse not looking too hot

This wrasse has been in my 300 for almost 3 months now, maybe longer. It has been doing great. Yesterday it was missing, and did not see it at all. Just about 15 mins ago it popped up but was laying partially in the sand bed on its side. Its gill was moving so I figured Id try and catch it to put in my QT tank for observation. When I tried to catch it it swam away and I cant find it again? Is there anything common that goes wrong with these fish? All other fish are fine, water parameters are good. Any suggestions?

I have mine for over a year now and it's very active usually being one of the first wrasses up in the morning and one of the last to hit the sand at night so for it to be buried longer and laying on its side are not good signs. I don't know of any deseases that Tamarins are more common to have than any other fish. If it's still eating try soaking its food in a vitamin enriched supplement like Vitachem.

What other fish do you have in the tank? It's sounds like someone may be forcing him into hiding. Try feeding a little bit more, sometimes fish are a little less aggressive when they are fat and happy. See if he comes out more after feeding once or twice more each day.

I tried adding some vitamin to the food, and have been feeding everyone a bit more. I have not seen this fish in days, not even a body. Hope it is ok.

Don't give up hope just yet... normally when sand dwellers die or close to death they come out of the sand.

I had a beautiful lineatus super male wrasse for about 8 months that was eating like a pig and always out and about....1 day he started being picky with eating...then he disappeared...I found him on the sandbed 3 days later.....I hope that is not the outcome for you but this is just something that there may not be an adequate explanation for or just his time to go.
