I am intersted in vieewing pictures of juvenile Gold Strip Maroon's. I think that I have been sold a WSM that was labeled as a GSM at a LFS. Lo and behold, I went to another area LFS tonight and they had the exact same looking fish as I have and they were also labeled as Yellow Stripe Maroon's (is there a difference in GSM's and Yellow Stripe Maroon's??). I posted a pic of my fish a few days ago and the consensus was that it was a WSM. Does anyone have any pictures that I can view of juvenile GSM's? I have searched around without any luck. I want to pair up two gold stripes to be the lone occupants of my 125. I put the one in that I purchased to let her grow up to be a big healthy female and was going to introduce a much smaller male once I got her to the size I wanted. If I have a WSM I would prefer to take it back. I want to be sure of what I have first.

Very young GSM have white stripes. That is how they start off and get more yellow as they get bigger.

How big is the one you have? Mine usually get their color at just about 1 inch.

As skinpuppi stated, GSM do not develope their golden stripes until they are older. With diet being a factor, this may take anywhere from 9 to 12 months. Most CB GSM are sold at 6 to 9 months. So you can see the problem. They will develope the golden color first in the head bar and then the mid bar, then the tail. Judging by the thickness of the bands in your pic, and the fact that it was sold to you as a GSM, I would say that you do have a CB GSM and the color will develope over time.

Keep us informed on your little guys progress :)

Here is my GSM at 6 or 7 months. I already have offsprings from her according to the current owner :)

Thanks for the help. I do feel a little better now. I guess that my fish is only about an 1-1 1/2". I guess I will hang on to it and see what happens. Sometimes it seems like I can see a little yellow comming in on the first stripe, but I am not certain. Again, I appreciate all of the help. I will try to photograph the fish as it (hopefully) changes through it various color stages.

At what age (size) could one expect a pair to begin breeeding? Does this vary by species of clown?
