I just turned on my new lights.....400 watts of pure enjoyment :).

I went with 15K Ushios after seeing Allens last weekend and I love them so far. They seem whiter on my tank than on his but maybe they will darken up after some burn in time. They have been running for 2 hours now and I have seen no temperature difference. I hope it stays like that! I just cannot believe how much brighter they are. I see stuff in my tank that I have never seen before...some good..some not so good. Looks like I have some cleaning to do.

I cut the photo period by 2 hours on each end....I hope that is enough with these suckers!
 
My old 250's are going over my frag tank and the 175's I had over that are already sold.

Let the meter spin now :)
 
I cant take a picture for the life of me, but this gives you the idea of the "neutral" light.....not too white....not too blue.

Sounds great man! I wonder how the corals will react over the next couple days? Make sure they dont get sunburnt !

I started with 10K and they were too white. Then went to 14K Geismann and I really liked them and now just recently switched to 20K XM and they were too blue. Now that was all with the 250wt.

They are just right for me. Plus my pcitures suck!

It will be interesting to see how the corals react growth wise once they adjust to the new light.
 
I just tried taking some pics of my 14k hamiltons to post and the BLUE light is killing my camera. I can't get a decent picture for anything. They're alot bluer than I was anticipating but I really didn't have anything to compare them too. Kind of curious to see what they'll look like once they're "burned in"
 
It will be neat to see!

With all of the different bulbs I have had I have never seen a difference in growth or color. Like I have always said....lighting is only one of many factors in a reef.

What kind of camera is everyone using?
JUst got my new tank light up, not a thing to photoggraph yet.

I"m getting a 6 deg rise in temp from the lights.
is this high compared to everyone else ?

120 gal 3x250 halide 4 x160 vho

Try messing with the white balance, alos you would be amazed about what you can learn by reading the manual for your camaera....i know its hard to do but take the sucker off of auto and play with some settings.

This was my tank 15 months ago right after I went bare bottom. The switch really stunted the growth on some things...so I would say it took me a good year for a full blown reef starting from frags.
