Andrew's 20 Gallon Reef

Haven't had a tank in about 3 years ago it was time to start one. I've had probably 20-30 different tanks before and the most I've ever had going at once was 13 but that was when I had way too much free time. So I'm keeping it simple and just doing a basic 20 gallon reef on somewhat of a budget

I still need another 15 lbs or so of rock so I'll be grabbing that this weekend but so far it's a good start. This is also my first tank with a sandbed. I've always been a BB reefer but decided to make the switch.

Week 1

Right now I've got an old fluorescent strip over the tank but I'm either will go with T-5s or an MH fixture. Right now I'm just focused on getting back into the hobby since a heck of a lot has changed since I last had a tank lol

Welcome back this hobby is definetly addicting I don't know if I will ever leave the hobby lookin forward to following this thread

Week 2 just passed yesturday and I decided to relocate the tank to the basement so that took about half an hour to move. Than went out and got three green chromis to help out with the cycle. If all goes well I'll be able to add a pair of perculas on saturday just depends on if the cycle is short since the rock was from another estiblished tank. Everything is going great so far and I'm happy with the results.

I still plan to add a couple more rocks but I'm waiting on some coraline filled pieces to come into the lfs. The misbar female has had an attitude and recently killed the flame angel I had. I'm not sure what her deal is but she is queen of the tank for now. I plan on redoing the rock and adding a couple more green chromis into the tank so that way their is less aggression than just dumping more in. Than I'll start buying some frag and letting the tank grow and fill itself up.

Whats your opinion on that coralife skimmer?

I've got one as well and as I understand it they work very well if modded. Currently mine is very much hit or miss as to how well it works, its 100% original out of the box and I've debated making some changes... however I can't tell if its worth the effort or if I spend the money on something better.

Opinions?

I love the skimmer. I picked it up for cheap on here off a member. I used to run one on my old 75 gallon tank and it worked wonders

I know the feeling. I have only had my BC 29gallon setup for just over a month and I want bigger. Gotta wait a while for the wife to approve though.

Thank You! I just picked up the angel yesturday and shes already eating everything I throw in there. Just a little shy still
