Anemone advice please...

Hey everyone,

I've been at the hobby for a while but I haven't been active in the forums for a couple of years now. In that time my tank has pretty much morphed into an anemone tank to the point that I really need to make some space. I must have more than 50 tank raised rose anemones of various sizes. The one below being one of the larger ones but not the largest.

Do any of you have any advise on how to determine their value, how to ship them if I sell them to someone not in my area? Any advice would be appreciated.

Your Maroon looks like she's about take some frustration out on your hand....

Determining the value of your maroons is not something I can tell you....
California is a totally different market than St Louis.....might try checking the local stores and see what they are getting for theirs. Keep in mind that a store has to make a profit so their probably paying about 50% or so of their asking price...stores may vary, but thats probably a decent guesstimate of the mark up on them.

As far as shipping goes, that's going to be a trial and error process for you.
I would reccomend not feeding the anemone for at least 48-72 hours prior to shipping, and I would use multiple large bags with as close to pure oxygen as you can get. I would not fill the bag beyond about 1/3rd of the way with water, and I would lay in a good supply of packing peanuts and insulated boxes. Cold/heat packs might not be a bad idea either.

Have you had any practice using rubberbands to close bags before? There is a good way to do it, but its really difficult to explain. A lot of places have moved towards using a metal crimping press to avoid rubberbands all together. You can have the healthiest critter in the world with excellent packing, but if the bag isnt sealed, you have a dead animal and an upset customer.

You might really consider working through a LFS for either store credit or for cash just to avoid the trouble of shipping your anemones if you dont have experiance with it.

I'm sorry but these threads turn into selling threads and that's not what this forum is for. Check stores, internet, and other sale prices and then try to judge what you think they are worth in your area. I really like the store credit idea also.
