i recently purchased this anemone and clownfish. i have a pretty stable tank and 2x 250w MH and 2x54w t5 actinics. my questions are, 1. what are they common and scientific names. 2. will they host. i purchased the anemone cause i liked its color and the LFS recomended the clownfish. they have been in for a couple hours with no hosting, i know it takes a while sometimes and it took a hour for my damsel to leave the clown alone. any help is much appreciated :)

The fish is Amphiprion occelaris aka Percula or Nemo (Hate that one) and the anemone is a Stychodactyla haddoni aka green carpet. They will definitley host because I have had it happen. It may take some time for the anemone to grow and the clown to gain interest. Just feed the anemone regularly with meaty foods and it will turn into a beaut. Great coraline too.

thank you soo much. i was unsure if it was a percula or ocil... thanks its a piece of rock that has been with me for ever although since i have replaced my halides the coraline has began tu get a little lighter...another question should i place the nem in the sand?

How big is that anemone? Does it have any spots on the under side? If it is Haddoni, it may take quite some time before any hosting takes place. Haddoni is not the natural host for your clown fish, to the best of my knowledge.

i dont remember any spots in the bottom but it went right into a hole and has not budged since. its 3 times the clowns size but the clown is only a inch long

It is an A. Ocellaris, but the common name is False Percula -- there is a species called A. Percula.

The Haddoni is not a natural host for an Ocellaris, and are one of the stickiest hosting anemones -- there is a small chance that it could eat the clown.

Granted it has only been a couple of hours, but the gaping mouth is a bit of a concern. How did it look at the LFS? It is a little on the lighter side as far as its color is concerned. Also, while Haddoni's have shorter tentacles, I would like to see them a little bit fuller and more of them. Once it settles in suggest giving it some small feedings.

well the mouth has began to close and is not nearly as large as previously. and it was a gray color in the store but is now a green color. it has also increased insize alot from when it was in the store. so prehaps it was not doing so well in the tank at the LFS. i will keep the details posted.
