Anemone Dissapeared!?!?!?!

okay so i had decided to buy myself an aqua c remora protein skimmer for christmas and i am very happy with it.

in my tank i had begun a reef tank and i had 2 haitian pink tips one whit one brown. and over the weekend i left everything running and my light on a timer and i had just cleaned my collection cup of skimate.

but to my surprise upon my return the white condy anemone had dissapeared!!!!! i checked all over the tank behind rocks, filters outside my tank underneath my bed, but nothing. it just and vanished..... now none of my tank inhabitants could have eaten my anemone unless the snowflake eel had just grown a hankering for a large gellatenous creature with most likely a terrible taste.... but thats unlikely.

it just so happened that when i came back that it was also the day that i was gonna give my 29 gallon tank a waterchange and that when i noticed.

one thing i noticed when i checked my skimmer was that it was extra brown and extra stinky... so could it have been that my anem died and the skimmer sucked it clean out of the water????

most likely the skimmer didnt suck it up unless it has its own pump sucking from the tank im not familiar with the aqua c. if this is the case then count yourself lucky cause a dead diced up anemone destroys tanks. however more than likely its just in a spot you cant see it and it will come out later. I would try very very hard and take a good thorough look in the tank to try and find it so you can monitor it if it is on its way out

The skimmer does have a pump that hangs into the display (usually a Maxijet or Rio) do you use the plastic guard that covers the intake? also, have you noticed that the water is/was cloudy?

yea it has a maxijet 1200 and i do have the preskimmer.... but when i came back to the tank the water looked pretty clear... but the skimmate was smellier than previous and darker than ever.

i have kept looking in the tank and being that mine isnt very big at only 29 gallons there arent many hiding places but yes i wont count it out because it is still a possibilitiy..... ill stay at vigil..lol

So what was the time frame between when you saw it last, left, and noticed it was missing, did you say you went away for the W/E?

i saw it friday afternoon then i left and returned sunday and gave a water change monday which is wen i noticed....

Okay so 1 more question, do you run carbon in your tank?

If so, its very possible it died and the carbon and skimmer cleared the water before you returned. I don't know what you have for livestock other than the snowflake but it wouldn't shock me to find out the eel was the culprit.

You know, I just had a similar situation like that happen. I had an LTA and a couple days ago I came back and it was gone. Earlier that day it was out and fully open, it had just eaten the day before, I came home from work and it was gone. The tank never smelled, no ammonia or nitrate spike before or after. The anemone was in my tank for a couple months too.
Sorry to snake your thread, but I thought it would be better than starting my own.

i dont use any carbon and unfortunately still no sign of the anemone..... =[ he was my first anem....

R.I.P Condylactus anemone... aka haitian pink tip.....
