Anemone Food

I read over the FAQ about feeding Anemones but still had a question. I have 2 anemones in my tank, a recently added bubble tip and a Rock Flower. I was just wondering where you would find food to feed these and what kind people would recommend. In the past, I have had good success with Angel Formula with my rock as well as frozen silversides, but I am having trouble getting the bubble to eat these...might just need more time to get acclimated, but he seems to be doing fine otherwise.

Can you feed them shrimp from a grocery store? Not sure if the LFS sells what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance.

I use frozen mysis shrimp soaked in zoecon to feed my carpet and rbta. I don't recommend using shrimp from the grocery store since its usually treated with stuff. People have different opinions on silversides but I don't like them.

I recommend human grade food from the grocery store, just wash well before use. Chop up very finely and feed small amounts. But that said, I also feed my fish mysis and enriched brine, which the nems also get. Any frozen food you get at a pet store should be examined first. If its ever been thawed (in shipping or bad freezer) then refrozen it should not be purchased. Biggest problem with silversides is they spoil quick if thawed.

My first anemones liked prime reef, these do not. I use pemysis when I can find it. I soak it in vitachem or selcon.

I wouldn't eat some of the human grade around here, so I won't feed it to my critters.

I feed my anemone human grade food. Sushi grade when I can find them. They really ove salmon and tuna.
Spoiled food kill anemone. If it smell (spoiled), it would not go into my tank. All the silversides I ever come across smell terrible. I would not touch them. Need less to day, they don't go into my tank. That is the negative about these silversides.

silversides made a big difference for my BTA but it will only take about a half of one at a time.

+1

Silversides have been awesome for my Rose Bubble Tip, just once a week and they seem to love it. Just have to keep the cleaner shrimps away or else they will try and steal it.

I also heard that if you want them to split, then feed them Squid.

I'm with Minh. I just don't trust that silversides sold at an LFS have remained solidly frozen at all stages of shipment and storage. Why take a risk when there are other options available?
