Anemone food

Does it really matter what fish that you feed to an anemone, or will any marine fish be acceptable? Being as I live right by the beach I can catch lots of anchovies, mojarras, silversides (not the same species as those sold at the LFS), and some other small fish. Could I feed these instead?

I don't see any reason why you couldn't. I think they would probably be way better than what you could buy at a LFS. I would try it if I had the source available.

thanks...any idea which would be the best one to try? I dont know if the anchovies would be too oily? But they are alot softer than the silversides we get around here

I would be careful of red tide and stuff to make sure you don't introduce anything into the tank or Anemone. But living 90 to 100 miles South of you, I like the same idea.

I have a large buble tip and I only feed it silver sides. I am not sure what is the best for him to eat or what variety. I keep looking form more information about anemones but have not found a reliable source. would love any ideas.

As long as the anemone eats the fish I don't see it making much of a difference using the anchovies. Just don't overfeed them and keep your skimmer going.

Thanks Smokie 1118.
I feed Silversides also. Krill isn't working to good, but even sometimes when I go to give the BTA a silverside, it shrinks up before it could grab the fish. It works better if I can direct the flow to blow the silverside into the BTA. Once it has the silverside it eats it quickly.
