I have a Red Sea reefer 28 gallon and want to know if I can have an anemone such as a BTA or H. Malu for my pair of Ocellaris clowns to live in. Is my tank too small for an anemone or is there a species that will work?
I had a bta in my 30g tank with no issues. But 2 points, 1) your tank is how old? It needs to be fairly mature to keep a bta, especially given the small size. 2) your water parameters need to be stable and kept that way. Other points, you will probably need to feed it every 2 to 4 weeks since your tank is small and don't be surprised if it moves around in the tank. Anemones rarely stay where you place them as they have a mind of their own... they are the cats of the aquarium hobby.
My tank is 3 months old which I understand is young but my parameters are all very stable and my corals are doing great. By "fairly mature", how long should I wait? Feeding won't be an issue for me because I already do this with all of my corals.
I kept giganteas in 10 gallon tanks for several months without issues, one for almost a year. Though that was just a temporary holding solution.
28 could work for a malu or BTA if you manage to keep the water parameters stable and find the ideal light settings and flow for them.
