I have a 30 gal bio cube tank removed 5 gal of the dirtiest water water from the fincorrectlI I added water back pouring it in the filter area.

Used water from my 6 stage rodi added back the 5 gal with a salinity of 1.027(37)

My CA is 500-520.
PO and NO are zero or close to it
KH is 144ppm.

The anemones are ****ed and one died. The water temp is 79.

What did I do incorrectly?

What kind of anemone? Your sg is a touch too high should be no more than 1.026. We need all of your parameters and age of tank like GilliganReef said. What other inhabitants are in the tank and why was your water so dirty? What do you have for lighting and how much flow is in the tank?

1.027 may be a touch high, but it's certainly not high enough to cause any issues in a tank!

The tank is over a year old. The water was clear, no alge build up. The filter area had what appeared to be waste sediment so I sucked 5 gallons out. I washed the filter, the carbon and sponge. Added the reef salt to the filtered water I replaced it with and replaced the water in the filter area. As soon as the new water entered the tank the the green carpet and another secret film over themselves 3 others hid. Now only one has come out and seems normal, one died, and 2 are still in hiding.

Do I read this as you added reef salt then put in the water so it was in effect mixing in your tank? This would most certainly be your problem if so.

Hopefully I'm reading this wrong

No sorry. I added the reef salt to the 5 gal container of replaceement water . Once disssolved in the replacement water, I poured it into the tanks filter area.

I really appreciate the ideas and hope I can figure out what I did wrong. I will test the mag and most of all take G Reef's advice to be more courteous to them by leaving them alone.

I am not only new to this but it was also dumped on me. I have been using this site, the Internet, and youtube to manage this tank and another. I have a lot of equipment to test and condition the water if and when needed. Just shocked that after a move and a month of no problems the first time I try toId something good for them happened to be quite the opposite.

I'm not used to learning by failure but this sure was a reef and life lesson
