Can any one help me identify this anemone and provide any other information on it. I have a half dozen small(1 to 3 inch max) deep red anemones that prefer low light and good flow. They also seem to like cooler temps. Not sure what type they are. A while back I had narrowed it down to 3 species, but I do not remember the names. I was give the original one two years ago, because it was all but dead. Originally it was 3-4 inches across. It had slowly declined to the point of being less then an inch across and looked poorly. They do well in the overflow box of my 24 gallon nano cube. They get minimal, light good flow and a fair bit of food there.
One interesting thing about them is, a while back I thought I would clone one. I picked the biggest one and when I touched the knife to it a bunch of little clones popped out. They varied in size, but all were less then 1/4 inch across.
I moved the one pictured a few days ago to a bare bottomed propagation system I recently set up. It is directly under the return to the tank so it gets good flow. It is starting to look happier and open up more. I hope it will grow a bit larger in this system as it is a little cooler then the tank it was in. It is probably the size of a quarter or slightly bigger. They have split several times for me, but really do not get as big as the original. I finally managed to get one decent picture which shows pretty much the true colors.
