anemone id plzz

IMO it isn't an LTA (Macrodactyla doreensis), and to be honest I am not sure what it is.

It does look a bit bleached. What lights do you have ?

And here is your picture,

it does look like a Heliofungia actiniformis. do u think thats what it is? there was another lta there and it didnt look like this one. it was blue/white and didnt have whit tips. that one looked more like a lta.

Blue/white doesn't sound like an LTA, unless it was very bleached.

Did the other one (( or yours )) have a red(ish) foot, and bumps on the underside of the oral disc? Those are common traits of LTAs.

yea the very bottom of my "anemone" was redish. ill try and see if i can take a pix. is it common for lta's to have white tips?

That picture helps. It is (( IMO )) an anemone for sure.

I have only once seen white ( very faint ) tips on an LTA that I have kept. That was a very bleached one, and wasn't able to notice them once it regained its zoax.

Now I am leaning towards an LTA (( but I could be wrong )), but it is in pretty bad shape. What lights do you have? Also, LTAs prefer to have their foot buried in the sandbed.

This is the one that I had that I noticed faint white tips, it was bleached,

But, it did make a full recovery and couldn't see the tips.

i have a tek fixture with 4 54 watt bulbs.so should i move him to the bottom on the sand bed? the guy at my lfs said to try to put him in a hole with not to strong of a current so he wouldent blown around.
what should i do to get him healthy?

Any chance its Heteractis magnifica?

It is possible, my personal experiences with Mags is zero.
But, if I had to make a choice b/t the two, I would lean towards an LTA, mainly from that second picture.

I would shade it from the lights. IMO, using window screening works the best. Just place some egg create over your tank (( to hold the screening )), and place 3 layers of window screening ontop of it. Remove one layer each week.

LTA aren't fond of a lot of current when they are settling in. And digging a hole in the sand is a good idea.

Also, in about 4-5 days I would try to feed it --- but something small, it is easier to digest.

If you aren't familiar with window screening for light acclimation, this is what it would look like. (( and I have since bought a proper sized light. ;) ))

no i never though of that. i always though u start it off at the bottom and slowly move it up. so should i just dig a hole and leave the anemone where it is or do i move it into the hole? could i feed it brine shrimp? and when i do feed it do i put it directly into its mouth?

i just place a egg crate and window screen on top of the tank too

Starting at the bottom and moving up would work fine for corals, but an LTA (( assuming that is what you have )) prefer the sandbed, so it should start there.

Yea, just dig a hole in the sandbed, and place it in there, then try to push the sand back in -- sort of like back filling a hole after planting a tree.

I would try mysis over brine, more nutritional valve. Should place it on the tentacles and not the mouth. And don't force any into the mouth. Depending on what fish you have, you may have to keep them away from it while it brings the food into its mouth.

i have a 4 stripe damsel, yellow tail damsel and a "pair" of clowns. and i will try mysis shrimp. im glad i have all these things in hand that u are naming. so do i just leave him at the bottom of the tank and let him move where ever he wants? or do i move him up slowly? im a total noob with anemones this is my first one. i have only been doing SW for a few months so sorry for all the noob questions.

Better to ask, then to not know.

You will never move it up. LTAs are sand dwelling anemones, and should stay there the whole time.

This is my current one, and has been in that spot since I get it 5 months ago,

A bit hard to tell from this shot, but its foot is buried in the sand.

A few months is a very young tank for an anemone, especially if you have very little saltwater experience to begin with.

IME the LTA (Macrodactyla doreensis) prefers to bury its foot in the sand at the edge of a piece of LR to sort of wedge its foot under.

edit: as yours has done Todd.

so is my lights good enough for it to live on the bottom of the tank? anything else i can do to speed up the healing process?

so since i had to move it to my sand bed i though i take more pics. the last pic is his new home. my tank is 19" high and its an 55 gal. any more advice to speed up the healing process would be great.

For posting pictures, you have it almost right --- take out the spaces b/t your link the the IMG tags.

Time, light, great water quality, and small feedings are all that you can do to try to bring it back to health. Not a whole lot you can do to speed it up, it will go at its own pace, just provide it the above and it should happen.
