My boyfriend bought this anemone for me to put in his 50gal reef tank and they said it was a BTA but its bleached out and we arent really sure that its a BTA as it is very small only a couple inches across. Our water parameters are good and we have excellent lights but the anemone seems to hate light it finds the ledges of the rocks towards the bottom of the tank. When the lights in the tank are on it stays mostly closed up and when the lights turn off it opens up. Any ideas on what type of anemone this is or why its shying away from the light would be appreciated. And the tank is over a year old.

IMO, it is an very bleached and starving E. quadricolor.

What are your actual water parameters -- numbers please.

What lights do you have? Did you acclimate it to your lights?

i know its bleached thats obvious and it was known when it was purchased. starving no it gets fed twice a week. in fact it was fed only a couple hours ago. as far as water parameter numbers thats my boyfriends dept i dont deal with that stuff i know the temp and water lvls and stuff like that get checked everyday and water changes are done regularly, but like i said that isnt my dept. as far as the lights go it has LEDs.
I took more pictures but im having problems uploading them ill upload them tomorrow

That isn't obvious to everyone.

Why did you purchase a bleached anemone?

It is starving, can tell by the length and quantity of tentacles. Also, in the 2nd picture the mouth is open, not a good sign.

Really need to know the actual water parameter numbers to help further.

Again, did you acclimate it to your lights?

it has a much better chance of surviving in our healthy tank then it did in the LPS tank as it was not being taken care of at all. The mouth being open was like that when we got it home it is no longer gaping open like that it closed up after a few feedings. it looked much worse when we got it home then it does now my concern isnt whether its dying as i know several ppl that have had nems in much worse shape that are healthy and growing in their tanks my main question is just what kind of anemone it is. Its now starting to get color back in the tips though its still very faint. Yes it was acclimated to the tank water and the tank lights.

Well, it appears that you know everything you need to know.

One final piece of advice, though it appears that you don't need/want any, acclimating to lights should take up to 3-4 weeks for an anemone in this state.

Its not that I don't want advise I don't need advice about the health of the anemone I stated in the original post that I knew it was bleached just so I could avoid the whole OMG your anemone is dying thing I know its not in good health and it is being watched very closely. However I did not know it would take 3-4 weeks to acclimate it to my lights could that be why its shying away from my light. It was only under the normal lights you see over 10 gallon freshwater tanks in the LPS. Though my question of what kind of nem is this hasnt actually had a definitive answer

all i wanted to know was what kind of anemone it is i know that its bleached and not in great health i am trying to change that. Though i didnt know it would take so long to acclimate to my lights we acclimated it for about a week and a half. Could that be why its hiding from my lights. Should i turn some of the lights off and go back to acclimating it or just wait for it to decide its ready to be in the light i have some more pictures if anybody needs them to tell me what type of anemone it is. Thank you

It's a BTA.

And yeah, it's starving. I'm not saying YOU are starving it - it sounds like you got it in starving condition. Good luck bringing it back to health!!
