I got this second hand from someone claiming it was a carpet anemone. I'm not so sure about that description can someone help ID it? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1348169269.127684.jpg

1. Welcome to RC! (I see you only have one post even though you've been on here for years)

2. I live in the STL too! I work right off Vandeventer and 40. :)

3. That's a hairy mushroom, not a nem at all. Pretty darn sure of that unfortunately. :(

Thanks. That's what I thought too, but it's so big and the guy mentioned it had gotten smaller (~6 inches). I'm at 44 and Grand. It's my first post here, but I've been at this reef hobby for about 20 yrs.

Yea unfortunately mushrooms can shrink and grow just like anemones. Some can even eat mysis or other foods. I think the "Elephant Mushroom" has even been guilty of closing around clowns and eating them on occasion. Or so I've heard... I think the only thing a mushroom CAN'T do is walk around the tank killing anything in it's reach.

Glad to have such a long-time hobbyist around. If you've been to any of the local club meets we've probably shook hands. I just have trouble matching up real life with forum life. :)
