My wife bought this anemone from Petco. She says it was labeled Pink Long Tentacle anemone. is that what it is?

That's a bubble tip anemone, not a long tentacle. The white lines around the mouth are the biggedt clue.

The way to get a definitive id is the column. Long-tentacle anemones have white spots down the colun under the oral disk. Bulb-tip anemones don't have white spots on the column.

While the white lines around the mouth are a good way to differentiate a BTA from a Heteractis species (magnifica, malu or crispa), its not useful in this case because LTAs have those lines as well.

It looks like an LTA to me, but a quick look under the skirt and you should be able to tell right away because a LTA will have white bumps and a BTA will not.

Disagree. That is very clearly a LTA. I have seen a number of LTAs with white stripes on the oral disk. Tentacle length, number and spacing and position on/in sand far more indicative of LTA.

Looks like an LTA to me. AC has 1 that has similar lines around the mouth and is definitely an LTA. Has verrucae.

People tend to get a bit rigid and literal when it comes to IDs -- i.e., white lines -> ok, has to be BTA. Sure there are important descriptive guidelines, but you see enough of these things and you should start to get a "feel" for the ID. I could spot this as an LTA a mile away.

Yeah, I'll admit I jumped too quick with my ID. I should know better. I never think of LTA's with the lines since my purple one doesn't show them.
And if Dkulmann agrees with my initial BTA ID then it can't possibly be right.

I'd bet that is an LTA,(M.doreensis), vs BTA,(E.quadricolor).

The tentacles are looking slightly curly. What color is the base? If its red or maroon, its an LTA.

heres my lta I bought around 2 months ago. it was maybe 2" across.now its probably 6"across.the one my wife just got I question because unlike mine hers has an all white base with no red or orange on base. it does have white dots under skirt but they appear smaller.
