Which Anemone for new Clown Fish?
Will these specs do?

30 Gallon
36L x 12W x 16D

32 Lbs of Live Rock
4 Month old Tank

Current USA - Orbit PC Lights
36" Long -
1x96w Dual Daylight (6,700K & 10,000 K)
1x96w Dual Actinics (420nm / 460 nm)
Lunar Moon Lights (3)
192 Total Watts.

pH 8.1 - 8.4
Nitrites: Undetectable
Nitrates: 5 - 10
Ammonia: Undetectable
Phosphate: Undetectable

With an Anemone... How should I run the lights?
Is my tank ready for an Anemone?
Which species do you suggest?

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

What type of clown do you have? How big is it.
Since the tank is only 4 months old, I would suggest waiting at least
another 4 months. The reason is two fold -- It allows the tank to mature more, and it allows you to mature more. Meaning getting yourself settled into a good maintenance routine, and it will allow you to
because more familiar with your tank -- being able to tell if there is an issue before it becomes too large.
But after that time, I would suggest a BTA, with the lights you have. Knowing what type of clown would help -- certain clowns are rougher on their hosts than others - would have to make sure the anemone is big enough.

Your lighting should be good enough for RBTA/BTA.

Another thing you might want to make sure you have it work out before getting an anemone is an auto top-off for your water evaporation.

This can be a pretty simple DIY if you are cheap like me. I simply use a 5 gallon Culligan water container and turn it upside down and put a air tube on the cap and regulate water flow with a plastic air valve. It works great. Total cost was $5.00

This will keep your salinity at a constant level and thus much better for your tank then dumping 3-4 gallons of fresh make-up water every now and then into your tank.

I think your anemone would be happier with more daylight. Perhaps replace the actinic bulb with a 50/50 (daylight/actinic) when the opportunity arises.

I too suspect he would have a better chance of survival if you give the tank a little longer to mature.

Here is a good article by Eric Borneman on tank maturation:

Try some hairy mushrooms, easy to keep don't need a lot of light

That is exactly what I will do. I will allow my tank to mature. Thanks for the suggestion!! :-)

As far as the hairy mushrooms go... Any type in paticular?

What should I look for?

My melanopus pair love their Mushrooms. They're under a lot of light (220W PC) in a 20L but it's too small and full of SPS so no anemone.

Just get any hairy mushrooms, you have plenty of lighting for them and many clowns really love them. You didn't mention what kind of clowns but perc and ocellaris are notoriously reluctant to host.
