Anemone Question

I'm trying to get my stock list for my 180 reef set up and have a question. I want it to be mostly LPS and softies but my wife and daughter are basically demanding a breeding pair of percs and a anemone. I dont want one in this tank because our carpet in my other tank moves around occasionally causing problems with the corals.

My question is is there a hosting anemone that will basically stay put and not move around at all ?

I don't know if it would be possible to find a nem that will absolutely not move around. I think they all will if they find it necessary.

My H. crispa is pretty stationary. It only moves when it's irritated by the flow of the skimmer picking up. We just did some reworking of the tank last night and we now have a sump, so the skimmer shouldn't be causing any more problems -yeah!

We try to keep ours in an area of flow that it likes, keep it fed, and keep the lighting good and it seems to stay put. Like I said, it seems to be the flow that makes it move most often, and even those moves have only been a couple inches forward and then back. We don't have much coral on that side of the tank because of the nem.

Unfortunately, these guys are horrible shippers and in the midwest, it's hard to find one that isn't incredibly stressed and/or unhealthy. It is possible for them to recover with good care, but it's also possible that they'll disolve in your tank leaving you with a yucky mess.

You've got a carpet so you've got some nem experience, but I would definately check out all your options in depth before deciding so you know what to expect with the one you choose.

Good luck!

Thanks, thats pretty much what i figured. My carpet pretty much has stayed in the same spot for 1 1/2 years but he will switch which way he leans on the rock every 4-6 months. He just moved from opening to the right to the left and now i have to move some corals to the other side of him.

I really dont want one in the new tank but if i wanna keep spending money on the tank i gotta let her have some things she wants in it. If anything, i have always really liked blue carpets so maybe a small one and just give him alot of room.

Both my LTA and sebae have been in almost the exact same spot for almost 5 years now.
Just like you said, slight shift once in a great while, but not much.
I just got a 180 also, and I plan to make islands of LR to eliminate nems touching corals.
