Gonna Need A Bigger Tank
Any tricks to getting a large rose bubble-tip anemone to release from his aiptaisa-infected rock???
I want to move him into my new 180, but not with the rock he/she's on...

Usually just find the smoothest spot on the rock he's on and pick at it on one edge if you don't have nails, Just kinda press and slide one finger over the same spot for a minute, or you can repeatedly touch the edge of his foot with a piece of ice, Just don't hold the ice on him, or you can take the rock and his ffot out of the water and coak the edge of his foot. Once they start to release in one spot you got em, as long as you don't cut the foot you are all good. They are really pretty tough critters, just don't use anything other than your finger or ice on them so you don't cut the foot.

Just takes some patience, ask Phunkie99. It took me all of 5 minutes to get the one i got from him today off it's rock. Just keep rubbing gently at the same spot until you see it start to turn loose and then gently work your finger under it from there. They are really not that hard to get.

And it does help if you can hold the foot where you are working in front of a PH while you do it. It stops them from sticking back while you work at them.

So, did you get him off the rock? If you weren't so far of a drive i would come get him off there for ya.

Going to work him tomorrow...I'll let you know...your idea about the PH to keep the foot from reattaching should really help...that's what he kept doing to me last night :)

I have never used a toothbrush on one before. I would be kind of iffy on that one myself. If you were to poke a hole in the side of his foot it would be a problem. It would have to be a really soft one to even consider it. They normally are only attatched around the edges, that is why i said work your finger unrdeneath. Then you just work around the edges from there. The PH does do wonders though.

Worked with him for over an hour w/ no luck...I guess I'll have to keep trying until one of us is aggravated enough to quit.

Did you try the ice yet? That usually agrivates them pretty quick. If you lived a little closer i would come get him for you.

I can't believe he's that hard to get off of there. I have never had one i couldn't get. I have had them in some tough spots too. Is he turning loose at all? if so stick something under that part while you work your way around. Use a piece of plastic or something that won't cut him though. I checked the weather for next weekend, and it's gonna be too nasty for a bike ride lol.

PM me an address and i'll mapquest it and see how long it takes to get there. I might be able to swing something over the next week.

WOW, that's quite a drive lol. i 1/2 hrs taking the busy way and 1:47 taking the two lanes. about 80 miles either way. Was hoping you were on my side of lakeland lol.

Post a pic of what you're working with and i'll see if i can help you that way first lol.

Unfortunately, I want him totally off the rock, not just moving to another aiptaisia-infected rock...I've tried everything except the ice trick...that'll be next...

Cut him out!

Cut him out!

If you are not interested in keeping the rock, the sure-fire method would be with a dremel and a diamond cuttng wheel. The wheel is very thin and about 1 1/2" diameter. You pull the whole thing out of the water and cut the rock down around him, maybe use a screwdriver after scoring the cut. You then have the rock the foot is attached to and no foot trauma for sure!
