Anemone split??

Is it true that stress causes anemones to split? Mine looked happy and healthy and eats well. How often do they split?

They can split for many reasons. One could be that they are stressed and splitting for survival purposes, and another could be that they are healthy and splitting to "carry on the family name" so to speak.

I started with 1 RBTA that was about 2" about a year and a half ago, and it split twice so now I have 3 and they are all about 3-4" now.

If your water is fine and they are healthy and eating normally then I wouldnt worry at all. But you might just want to double check your parameters just to be safe.

Agree. They also split if they're happy and well fed. I started with ONE anemone about 3 years ago; probably about 4 inches wide. Mine has spilt and they split and then one split again so I have 5 RBTAs that are about 10 inches (smallest) to 14 inches (largest) in size. They all sit together on Nemmie hill and host two VERY happy Clown fish.

If I feed them they grow large and then they split. I may have to either give my tank over the the RBTAs or start sharing with others. :\

As they split and grow do you keep moving other animals away from them or will they grow around other animals!

If by "other animals" you mean the other RBTAs then no I don't move them... they all cluster and grow together.

If you mean other animals such as corals, yes, as the anemones spread out the corals get moved away from the cluster.

Will they take over my tank? If so can I remove them from the rocks without hurting them and find them a new home?

Thanx for the info. I knew they could reproduce but I had no idea it would be that fast. Also a tomatoe clown that I have had for over two years and was always a good tank, mate hosted in this thing with in minutes and after a couple months has gotten very agressive. He bites me repeatedly when I put my hand in the tank. (my 4 year old thinks its funniest thing ever lol). My question is I want to get him/her a mate, will the problem get worse with two?
