HI GUYS IM NEW TO THIS FORUM - SO PLEASE BARE WITH ME - I'VE BOUGHT AN SAND ANEMONE WHICH HAS A RED BODY AND PURPLE TENTICLES - THE ANEMONE HAS BEEN FINE FOR 3 DAYS BUT TONIGHT I'VE SEEN IT INSIDE OUT........ JUST LIKE TO ASK IS THIS NORMAL AND ROUGHLY HOW LONG DOES IT LAST ? ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED MANY THANKS
............

Really need more info on tank, how long has it been running, water params, lighting, etc.
Nems do close up and change shape, sometimes people freak on that at first.
By the way, welcome!

thankyou for the reply - i checked 3 days ago my paras where
PH 8.2 temp 76f /24 C ammonia is less the 0.25 nitrite 0.1 nitrate 20ppm juwel 350 tank with a sump i tranfered my media /water from my old tank to my new tank week before i bought the anemone - lighting arcardia series 3 150w 20,000 blue bulb - and 2 powerheads at maxi jet 1200 at the top of the tank the anemone is at the bottom -

Well, nems need clean water.
You should have 0 amonia, and 0 nitrite.
He's probably a little stressed.
What media did you transfer?
How old was old tank and did you transfer DSB?
I would think about another WC to try to lower amonia/nitrite.
Little too soon for your nem.

my last tank was 12 months old - i forgot to add i've got a deltec 701 protein skimmer and a ozone - i tranfered my bio balls and my foam sponges from my last tank to my new tank - sorry what does dsb stand for ??

Oh and btw I agree that the anemone is probably stressed from the water conditions. They can stress easily if the water conditions are not right. Whats size tank is it? I would do a water change ASAP.

Deep sand bed.
Alot of people transfer old sand stirring it up and releasing the crud on the bottom.
Also, bio balls and sponges are a no no in reefs.
Remove them slowly, meaning a handful each week, no sudden changes.
If you didn't have that deltec(way cool) your nitrates probably would have been high.

i didnt change my dsb because i had a problem with algae in my last tank so i bought new dsb but is about 1 thick

I would probably do a 20 - 30 percent WC as soon as you can, test water after.
Pull a handfull of balls out and a sponge while you're at it.

i think i know why my levels where slightly high coz i had a kink on my pipe going to my skimmer not tested since but my phos level is near 0 - what would you recommend for my media in my sump - i did use araginite rock aswell is this ok???

i've got about 30kgs of live rock and im getting another 15kg this weekend - the aragonite wasnt live i dont think just small pieces that where in my sump instead of bioballs

This is all kinda a rushed guess, but sounds like your tank may be going through a cycle.
Do WC and check.
Watch nem, and if he doesn't look better soon, take him back until your water is cool.
I'd probably feed him a silverside or piece of raw shrimp.

Just so we're on the same page here, aragonite is sand.
If you say few pieces in sump, do you mean live rock rubble?
That is what I think should be in your sump by the way.

If it wasn't live b4, it most likely is now after a year.
No foam, but don't take all out at once, gradually.
Same with bio balls.
