Anemones acting weird

I recently bought an anemone from the LFS and it seemed like everything was going well, but this mourning I woke up to see it hiding under some rocks. The guy who sold the anemone told me it was a LTA and from what I've read on the fourms, it like to plant itself in the sand. From what I've seen in the past few days it that it likes to cling on rocks... is it me or er... I'm lost. I've been feeding it come gel like mixture that the LFS sold to me, but I was thinking about feed it some other stuff, such as silversides and so on.

The tank water was tested by the LFS and I was told everything was good. Tank has been set up for about 2 months but the salt water, rocks, and sand all come from an established tank.

My tank consists of:

29g Eclipse tank w/ overhead filter
Penguin 660 Powerhead (More flow)
Live rock and sand
2 Damsels, Urchin, LTA anemone

Is this normal? I've read about the mouth being open, so I'm curious as to whats going on.

It looks like an Atlantic anemone. They will climb on your rocks. What kind of lighting?

Sorry to break the new to you but that a Condylactis Anemone.

Clowns usually dont hostthis but there have been people <--including myslef that managed to have clowns host. Clowns were the robust type. Maroons, Tomatos and a Clarkii.

If you plan to get a clown, that will not be the best suited to have your clown host because they never really encounter each other in nature and the anemone will just end up eating the clown or killing it.

These do require med-strong lighting and exceptional flow.

Have u tried to feed it?

I am not too sure if my lighting is adequate or what not.

(Power-glo and Marine-glo bulbs; 20 watts each) I leave them on for about 12hrs a day.

What I am using to feed it (as recommended by the LFS):

(Coralife "Invertebrate traget food")

I have yet to feed it actual fish or any of foods for it as described above by members.

Come someone please clarify me on what this anemone really is. The LFS told me clowns would host in this anemone without a problem... I kind of question them now.

*edit: I paid $15 for it... reason why I got it (cheap) and it looked nice.

Clowns will not usually host in it, it is an Atlantic anemone, (Condylactis gigantea)

I did one on my 10 gallon nano and it did wonders. I had a friend help me who knew something about electrical wiring. It took us less than an hour.

This new light burns brighter, cooler, cheaper, and the bulb lasts longer than normal flourescents. HTH.

well, the issue about lighting is because everyone here does not want your anemone to bleech (loose all of its color). Typically they can survive with out light, they will just have a clear apperance, but you must feed your anemones food. That invertebrate stuff is not for them, they need hunks of meat, but make sure you chop up the meat so the anemone can eat it, and digest it.

bginop is right--chop up the chunks.
People on this forum suggest Formula One frozen food. Clownfish should eat Formula One too.

LoL! OMG this **** is so0o0o0o funny. I've always read about anemones getting sucked up by a power head and never thought my anemone was that dumb... guess I was wrong. Sad to see it dye so quick! Damn it, I'm sad but think its funny.

1st thing I need to do is upgrade the lighting system.

2nd thing on my list is to do more reaseach on what anemones are good and easy to take care of.

Since I already started this thread...

I need to make sure it will be able to support the anemones as well as corals.
2) what anemone will best work with a pair of false clowns

Don't listen to these guys, everyone has bad luck sometimes--from beginners to experts. And everyone has made some impulse buys; just learn from your mistakes and go on. It shows character that you can laugh about this. It reminds me of the time my parakeet got out and flew out an open window! lol!

things do die in the aquarium and it depends whatsort of person you are as to how you deal with it. I often go through phases and when somthing dies I usually feel bad but I know i did my best to keep it alive.
As for laughing at the sight of the anemone being sucked up save yourself some money and squish a bug or put your hand in a blender for thrills

I've read about anemones being kept on only pc lighting, but they should have metal halides too.
If I were you I wouldn't get an anemone while you're still a beginner. Just be satisfied with fish and you might try mushroom corals. They're small and are considered for beginners.
