Anemones in a FOWLR?

Ok I know if adding an anemone makes its a reef (somewhat)
but can anemones survive in a fowlr.? Just thinking about adding some variety to the landscape. I am working on a 92 gallon with the the following POSSIBLE tankmates

Auriga Butterfly
Racoon Butterfly
Pebble Butterfly
Dwarf Lion
blue spot puffer
Yellow eye tang
flame angel
blue jaw trigger

Any thoughs/advice will be appreciated

Those butterflies would be "thrilled" to have an anemone in the tank!
It';s certainly possible to keep anemones in FOWLR systems, however you need to have the right lighting. Certain fish may not be compatable with them however, and the butterflies are a good example. In a tank of that size, I'd consider one of the bf's you mention, with the raccoon being the biggest gamble if you want to have an anemone. The dwarf lion, kole tang and flame angel would round it out nicely. Are you considering a pair of clowns for the anemone to host?

I would say a FOWL usually has too much waste (NO3) to be a good home for an anenome. IMHO they need pristine water quality. Of course as already mentioned water quality is not really an issue because your fish will eat it pretty fast :) Over all I think it is possible, but that an anenome FOWL is the acception and not the rule. Good luck with what ever you decide.

lets not forget the trigger.
that anemone would be a tasty treat in no time.

That may be so but I have a very healthy Mag. Anemone in my 300g tank. It is doing very good has doubled its size in less then 6 months. I have a large clown trigger and many large Angels. My water is very clean so it can be done!

I was given a large carpet anemone and it is doing well in my tank with great flow, high nitrates (60-80). It was out in the middle, then moved to face the open window where the sun shines in...I have wrasses (2 big ones), triggers (blue line and clown), and a longnose butterfly and they don't touch it. I think they (my fish) know what will sting them and leave it alone.

Wow you guys have thrown me for a loop ! I never thought a butterfly would bother an anemone. Just wondering what don't they bother. I plan to have almost the same conditions as a reef setup ie T5 lighting, high cirulation, good filtration etc

Sounds good for lighting in the tank, but the butterflies could pose a problem....as for the trigger and such... I think it might be something about their particular species of anemone, carpet anemones are known to be "more dangerous" to fish than say a BTA. Others have gotten it to work, so I'd give it a try... though I wouldn't add the butterflies.

That looks like something I'd like to add to my 75. I am really wanting to add a coral to my tank, but not sure what. My tank is FOWLR right now but it really needs something, something to make it really stick out. What would be that someting?

My female blue throat has never touched my BTA...the only time she even goes near it is when I am feeding it and she tries to steal the silversides and shrimp! Other than that she leaves it alone...although she has taken a chunk out of my xenia from time to time!

Yeah, I just tried some xenia, blue line wasn't going to let that happen. It didn't. My lyretail hogfish also tries to steal the shrimp from the carpet an. also. I have touched it and it is VERY sticky. But again, my butterfly doesn't touch it. Or my polyps....

Getting "something" to add to LR with out becomming a full reef setup is my question also . I already have a reef tank and I guess what I now want is a fish centric or fish focused tank with some time of coral just to give it some diversity. I value having so many of the fish that are considered NOT reef safe.

That's why I was considering various anemones but from the posts so far the jury is still out on whether this is possible.I

I have a blue jaw trigger in a 112g reef with a RBTA and it has never bothered it (and I'm confident it never will form seeing them together over the last 2 years). Tiggers other than the blue jaw/sargassum/crosshatch might be a different story.

Those of you that have a carpet anemone have you lost any fish to it? I bought a huge one not knowing they are fish eaters. Now Im a little worried.
