It is coralline algae on the black starboard. There is just a very thin layer of black sand over the starboard.

Well, they have definitely grown quickly. The little ORA maximas have grown to at least double what they were originally. The gigas has gotten huge. I lost the tiny maximas from cherrycorals. They did good for awhile and then just started dropping like rabbits. Haven't lost any other clams. The mamimas/croceas didn't like the starboard or sand and have done much better with the rock being in the tank. The derasa that I got with a partially bleached mantle has almost completely gotten it's color back.
I'm not really sure what you are asking.
This ORA Ultra Maxi won the photo contest on DFWMAS last month. It's one of my favorites, but all the ORA maximas are stunning.
I would like to add a few more clams, but am so scared to make my guys sick. I will never buy tiny maximas again for sure. Except from ORA as theres were tiny too and have done wonderful.

It was really the maximas I was asking about. My LFS has a bunch of really pretty Maximas 2-3" in. and I was thinking about setting up a tank just to house 2-3 of these and maybe 1-2 fish. I am nervous about the viability of these little guys, though, and wanted to see how your experience has been. It seems like I need to find out where the LFS got their maximas from.
I love the current look of your tank and would love to do something similar.

Well the ORA maximas were about 2" when I got them. The others were tiny. I'd say 1-1 1/2". I think that was their downfall. The would look great one day and be dead the next. I'm just glad it's over to be honest. One of my worst experiences to date. Nothing against cherrycorals as I am sure they did fine for him for a long time just like they did for me.
The ORA guys are just amazing though and I highly recommend them. Actually everything ORA seems pretty hardy.

I will take them gigas if they out grow your tank I have a pretty large tank for them hehe.

What a shame about those maxima's. That was by far my best looking clam order ever. All in all before I sold out (2-3 months) I ended up losing only about 8 out of 70. I haven't been able to get them since.
I will agree that the little one's can be rough.
My last Crocea order was a complete bomb, over 50% passed on in less than 25 hours. I don't think I will do that again.
If I get the 8" Maxima's that I am working on maybe I can make it up to you.

Hum...Well there is a 265 right across the room from this tank that I am sure can hold them when they outgrow the clam tank. They are staying with their mama.
Of course I will have to move some things around. If you look closely you can see the reflection of the clam tank in this picture.
It's not your fault. You couldn't have done anything to prevent it. I do think it had to be something with the clams though as all my others have been great. Probably mainly just being so little. I never meant to get any maximas under at 2". Seemed like a domino effect. Like once they started dying it I was losing one every week or less. It was a pretty painful experience for sure. I don't expect you to make anything up to me, but it wouldn't hurt my feeling if you offered.
I have been really gun shy about buying any clams after them. They were so beautiful and I wish there was something I could have done.
