Angels in a reef tank

I've been looking for fish for my new tank and I really want an Angel(or two). Not a dwarf, a "large" one. I know they aren't concidered "reef safe", but I've seen lots of beautiful tanks with Angels in them and im jelous :lol:

The current fish list that will be going in so far is:
1 Lavendar Tang ~4-5"
1 Unknown tang that I believe to be an "Eyeline Tang" ~3"
4 Lyretail Anthias
1 Black blenny

My other fish I thnk I will end up selling/giving away, but im still unsure if I'll keep my SaddleBack Clowns. They dont really pair up, so I might replace them with somthing different.

I plan on adding maybe a Purple tang, some kind of Butterfly's, more Anthias, and a bunch of Wrasses.

The tank is only 190G but I would like a heavy bio-load because the skimmer I'm using is kinda big for the tank. I plan to feed often in order to keep all the fish happy and away from my corals.

So anyway, any suggestions for an Angel that would be borderline safe?

just remember, any large angel is going to kinda pidgeon-hole you on what kinds of corals you can keep, and you have got to be prepared for a loss. what are the dimensions on your 190, and what kind of skimmer are you running?

I have a pretty heavy bio-load in my 180 mixed reef with 2 tangs (powder blue and purple) male and female bluethroat triggers, foxface, huge zebra eel, juvi emperor angel, and a few other smaller fish. if all goes well with my levels I might still add in a couple more smaller fish and possible a couple dwarf angels.

Get blue line angels, false personifer single or in Pairs... would be nice medium size angels for your tank for sure...

Excellent suggestion, both species stay fairly small and you can usually pair them up. The flagfin, goldflake, griffis, regal, cream, singapore, and bluespot are some other "large" angels that all stay under 8 inches or so and are very nicely scaled for a tank that size. The unfortunate thing about these fish is that they are either expensive, or not very hardy, or both. I currently have a meridithi (false personifer) in my display (180 gallon) and a juvie blueline in my fuge and have had good luck with this genus but these two fish were not cheap.

To be honest I would steer clear of the really large angels in the Holocanthus or Pomacanthus genus with the possible exception of the majestic (navarchus) which stays smallers and is usually more mellow than the others in the genus.

Hmm, Singapores, Goldflake, Bluespot, are also good suggestions. If you had more experience & could find one, a Regal. OK, that is my personal wish there! But can you blame me? LOL
