Anyone out there have any info on keeping anglers-everyone I have talked to said they are hard to keep & die after a few months for no apparent reason. Any help will be appreciated.

I don't know anything about anglers, so here's some speculation:

I would guess that it's feeding-related. They eat lots of big food at once, and live food at that (iirc). I don't know what's used, but overfeeding is the [proposed] leading cause of lionfish death and underfeeding is a big killer of certain eels too (namely ribbons). I can't think of what you would even feed a full-grown angler as they eat such big pieces.

I kept one over two year and I have a friend who has a pair and got them in 2005.
I don't think they are hard to keep as long as you can get them to eat frozen foods. They sometimes fail to accept "dead" food even if you move it around. They like to use there "worm" to lure prey and they just don't get the idea that food is being handed to them.
They can easily get air trapped inside them when they gulp the food and this can be fatal. Luckily I never had that problem.
