Angry Six Line

One of my clownfish died recently. So I pick up an other one for the remaing clown. This new clown was smaller and as soon as I introduced the new clown, My Six Line started to chase it. I turned off the lights so everyone would go to sleep, which wokred. When the lights came on later in the day, I couldn't find the new clown. That's because it jumped out of the tank.

I was thinking of getting an other one. Does anyone have any tips for adding fish? I was thinking of putting the new fish in a clear contanier in the display so the six line can get to know the new fish. Any tips?

How big is your 6 line? As they mature they become more and more nasty. Sorry this doesn't answer your question, but I'm not sure any method would work in your scenario.

I picked up a critter cage (clear plastic cube with a plastic mesh lid from petsmart or petco) I hold it in my display with a algae magnet. I usually feed all the fish the part of the tank that the acclimation box is on so that they get used to seeing each other eat.

Leave the fish in there for a few days until they are used to seeing each other and the aggression will hopefully stop.

That said, Sixline wrasses sometimes just decide to take over and become bullies. I had one that was a great fish and then he wasnt, killed 3 fish before I decided to pull my reef apart to catch him. Good luck

sometimes I would take the aggressive fish out into the sump while acclimating the new fish. Then in a couple days, I would put back the aggressive fish.

Spstamer makes a lot of sense. I would get a larger clown to better the chances. Also buy a lid or make one. I have plenty of fragrack material you can use as cover. What size tank?

Try the mirror methodd too put a mirror next to your tank and let the wrasse try and go after itself thats worked for me with tangs

I'm going to try to catch it and put it in my sump. Also going to get a bigger clown. I'll also make cover. I have some eggcrate to make a temporary cover. I'll keep you posted. Wish me luck.

Check the Tucson thread, someone on there just made a super easy diy wrasse trap that worked great for catching what is essentially an uncatchable fish in most reefs

Thanks Dangerwill. I'll try that. Right now I have the new clown (which is bigger than the last) in a critter cage. And sure enough the six line is flaring at it. @ zoous I would like to keep the six line. It doesn't pick on the older tank mates.

I just caught the six line with the diy trap. It's in the sump, we'll see how it does with a few days of solitude.

If your existing clown is a female, and the new one is larger than the last, you may well have two females. If that's the case, your Wrasse is a small problem compared to your existing clown.
