Angry SPS messaging other SPS to be PO'd

Question, I think I understand what is going on in this situation, but I've panicked myself a bit.

I did quite a bit of rescaping yesterday, and put several SPS pieces in my sump that are currently PO'd. My intent was to frag them later tonight when I had more time. I went into that section of my sump today, and moved a pump around a bit, as it seemed it needed a cleaning (I didn't unplug it when stirring things up yesterday and it was clogged up). Anyhow, when doing that, I stirred up that sump water where the angry corals were. Next thing I know, all my SPS in the display had retracted their usual polyps and had thrown out their defensive polyps. Everyone looked supremely PO'd. My best guess is that the defensive slime in the sump was stirred up, got into the display, and made everyone angry. I changed my carbon just to be safe. Anyhow, hopefully I've just worried myself and everything will settle back down in due time.

...I never heard of that before. Interesting.

I remember using some two part epoxy to attach a frag and what ever is in that stuff certainly upset my Mille(s), briefly. I don't recall other acros reacting to the epoxy or any signals from the POd SPS.

Hope everything returns to normal for you.

I think changing the carbon is a good idea but don't run it too aggressively
If you don't see and positive change I would do a small WC and another small WC the next day

I have seen this before in my frag tank when I go on a major fragging stint. You might be right that it is a broadcast signal sent from one to another.

Also see this sometimes when feed my nasty frozen food slurry.

Dont overreact, Im sure all will be well

Thanks Bill and Dwayne. I've got a pretty conservative amount of carbon online. This morning things looked ****ed off still during lights out, but most had feeders out, albeit not as extended as they usually are. I fed oysterfeast as per usual, not sure that will help. Dwayne, your info is reassuring to hear, and I'll wait patiently and try not to over-react. I plan on doing my usual water change tonight. Hopefully that will help.

In regard to the broadcast signal, I'm not sure what it could otherwise be. Things looked pretty good and as soon as I moved the pump around in that section of the sump, things went from relatively happy to ****ed off in the manner of minutes. I did take the corals out of the sump that I had moved there, and a few minutes later my wife asked how long the "terrible fishy smell" was going to stick around for, which is maybe telling what state they were in.
